good time for considering air conditioning replacement

Having an air conditioner in your home is a must here in Florida.  A day does not go by that you don’t use it, right?  Have you ever asked yourself if you will ever have air conditioning replacement on your to-do list? Here are a few signs you need to watch out for to see if a new unit is needed.

  • If you keep having to repair your air conditioning unit, you may need to look into buying a new one.  If the cost of your repairs is adding up, which it will, it only makes sense to purchase a new unit instead of continuing to fix it time after time.
  • A good air conditioner should last between 10 and 15 years.  If you start to find yourself always getting a new part or doing expensive repairs, it would be a good idea to invest your money in a new unit instead of repairing it.  In the past decade, units have become more advanced and efficient, so now would be a good time for considering air conditioning replacement.
  • What kind of AC Unit do you have?  If your unit was purchased and installed before January 1, 2015, chances are it uses R22 Freon.  Newer units no longer use Freon, so the cost of it is rising, which will make maintaining your unit quite costly.  The federal government is actually phasing out the use of Freon to help conserve energy. By 2020, there will be a ban on this refrigerant and it will no longer be available for purchase.
  • If you cannot keep your home cool, you could possibly have the wrong size unit or there is a chance your unit is getting too old.  In both of these cases, now would be a good time to check air conditioning replacement off of your list.
